Rash Of Explosions. Now It Begins?
BIG SPRING, Texas - An explosion rocked an oil refinery today in a violent blast that shook buildings miles away and injured at least one person, the company said.
The blast sent black smoke billowing into the sky, shut down a major interstate and left residents rattled.
The cause of the blast is unknown.
MOUNTAINTOP, Pa. - A natural gas pipeline in Luzerne County exploded, leading to the evacuation of 10 homes. No injuries were immediately reported.
Flames and smoke erupted after the blast around 4 a.m. Monday in an industrial park in Wright Township. Emergency crews were able to cut off the flow of gas and get the fire out sometime after 5 a.m.
The cause of the blast is unknown. The FBI has been called in to help with the investigation.
Sugar dust in safety equipment caused a small explosion at an Imperial Sugar refinery near Savannah, Ga. weeks before a similar but bigger blast killed nine workers there.
That’s the finding of a federal investigator working the deadly Feb. 7 blast at the Port Wentworth, Ga. plant. In that explosion, sugar dust beneath the plant’s storage silos ignited.
What sparked it off is unknown. Was the first explosion a test?
PROVO - An explosion injured several people and could be heard for miles around a Provo metalworking business Sunday night.
Three people were taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, with non-life threatening injuries after an explosion about 9:45 p.m. at Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co., 2550 S. Industrial Parkway, said Utah County sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon. One victim may have had severe burns. Others with minor injuries were treated at the scene.
All workers in the plant were accounted for, and no fatalities were reported, Cannon said. He had no further details late Sunday evening about the cause of the explosion.

DETROIT (AP) — A house explosion injured five people early Saturday, including three children, and fire officials were investigating whether someone had tampered with the gas service.

AURORA — No one was injured when an explosive device detonated in a downtown Aurora building Saturday morning, damaging dozens of windows on two levels. Police found an apparent incendiary device had been placed along the west side on the exterior of the building between a wall and a garbage dumpster, the release said. The force of the blast destroyed dozens of windows on the first two levels on the west side of the building. The perpetrator is unknown.
That’s a lot of back to back explosions all over America with “unknown causes” and unknown motives. I can think of one motive….
