Churches And Sanctuary Don’t Mix

No religious institution, no church, temple, synagogue or mosque may give sanctuary to anyone who is in violation of United States laws or is subject to extradition to another country under our laws, and for any such institution to do so is in itself a violation of law.

A Mexican woman says she is “picking up the torch” from another illegal resident who became a symbol for immigration reform when she took shelter in a Chicago church for a year before being deported.

Like the last one, she left her children behind in Mexico. Nearly 8 years ago.

Flor Crisostomo, 28, who paid a smuggler to drive her across the U.S. border in 2000, spurned a deportation order Monday and moved into Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago. She said she left Iguala Guerrero, Mexico, after she was unable to find a job that would allow her to buy enough food for her two boys and one girl, ages 9 to 14. She was caught in 2006 by the INS and then appealed her deportation order. The Board of Immigration Appeals last year denied Crisostomo’s appeal and told her to leave the United States by Monday.

Walter Coleman, who runs this scruffy little storefront “church”,
looks like a Bowery bum in priests clothes. Harboring fugitives is
becoming a habit for this whiskey-faced fellow. The notoriety is no
doubt increasing “church” revenue considerably.

“It’s unfortunate we have to do this. This church has other
priorities, like helping the poor in this neighborhood,” the Rev.
Walter Coleman said. “But God didn’t give us a choice. When God says
do this, we say, ‘Yes, sir!’”

Somehow I doubt that God holds conversations with this unscrupulous little man. He was interviewed on CNN by Glenn Beck and looked into the camera twice with slitted eyes, very briefly, and the rest of the time kept his head lowered while mumbling Liberal Left political
phrases. Glenn Beck chopped him to pieces.

I suppose I should admire the patience of the Chicago police in not arresting this man and the illegal alien he’s harboring, but I don’t. They should do their job and put him out of the business of harboring illegal aliens for profit.
