NICOSIA (Reuters) - Eight asylum seekers remained barricaded on a roof at a British base in Cyprus for a second day on Thursday, threatening to jump unless they got British passports.

The seven Iraqis and one Iranian scaled onto a 14-metre (45 ft) training tower in the western sovereign base of Episkopi on Wednesday. They were thought to have water and food supplies for several days.

“They do not have any right to a British passport,” a spokesman for the military bases said.

Authorities would not force the men down, the spokesman said. “It would endanger them and us,” he said.

The asylum seekers, all well built males wearing thick coats and hats, had unfurled a large banner hanging over the tower which read “We demand the British Passport”.

Food and water? Thick coats and hats? They don’t sound very suicidal to me but I know how to tell for sure if they mean it. All they have to do is jump. The ones that die definitely deserve to be given passports. If there are any survivors they should be jailed, of course.

Not to be outdone for hilarity, Senator John Kerry embraced the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama here on Thursday, saying Mr. Obama “had the greatest potential to lead a transformation, not just a transition.”

If Obama still had a chance, it’s gone now. An endorsement by Kerry is like being slapped in the face with a wet 12 pound cod just before you try to kiss your bride. LOL!

Bush has predicted Peace In The Middle East In One Year. That’s out of the same box as “Mission Accomplished!” Not a snowballs chance in Hell but it’s good for a laugh.

There’s a lot of talk about the U.S. going into a recession. That’s the bad news. The good news is that if there is one, the job market will tighten up a lot and force out lots of illegal alien invaders already here and dramatically slow down the influx of new ones.

The owner of a landscaping firm was arrested Wednesday and faces up to 10 years in federal prison, accused of harboring one of his workers, an illegal immigrant from Mexico charged with the capital murder of a Houston police officer.

Court documents show that Robert Lane Camp, 47, went to considerable lengths to help Juan Leonardo Quintero and keep him on the job at his Deer Park landscaping company before the September 2006 killing of officer Rodney Johnson.

In August 1998, Camp posted a $10,000 bond for Quintero after he was jailed on an indecency with a child charge, and hired an attorney to defend him. After the worker was deported in May 1999, Camp sent him money in Mexico and later bought him a plane ticket from Phoenix to Houston after Quintero re-entered through Arizona illegally, according to an affidavit by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. Camp then purchased a house in Houston and rented it to Quintero.

Holy Cow! Were they lovers? Good news that the employer and enabler of this scumbag is going to prison. With any luck he’ll die of AIDS in there before he can get out again. Bad news is the illegal invader had to kill a cop before his employer/enabler was finally arrested.
