A New Wind?
At the end of the American Revolution, we defeated British general Cornwallis and won our independence with the help of the French. It could be argued, and probably truthfully, that the French only did it because they had it in for the British. Even so, without the French the battle likely would have been lost and America would not be America today.
So when France’s new president Nikolas Sarkozy suddenly appalls the clerics of France’s cult of anti-Americanism by lavishing praise on the US, it’s like a pine-scented wind sweeping away the odors and stinks of European air long gone stale. A little histrionic of me, maybe, but really, this is an amazing feel of Spring in the fall air. Now that The Toad, Jacques Chirac, is no longer leading France into oblivion with his hateful rhetoric, and Sarkozy is at the helm of the nation that gifted us with our Statue of Liberty, my spirits are steadily rising over the future of Europe.
If our government will sieze the day and rebuild the fires of friendship between our two nations as Nikolas Sarkozy is now trying to do, we can turn the Islamic tide in Europe around. Sarkozy appears to want an even stronger European Union but without the appeasement of muslims and the soft-pedal approach. His hard-line stance toward Iran is upsetting some of the EU nations, including Germany, which has trade ties with Iran. He’s pushing, with the US, for sanctions against Iran, though not burning his bridges with the EU as he opposed a proposal by the United States to impose sanctions on foreign firms that invest in Iran, which many EU nations do. I have to agree that last one is a bad idea. Next thing, we’ll be sanctioning ourselves. You have to draw a line.
A strong EU can be a good thing instead of the increasingly disastrous mess it’s been becoming, if sensible policy changes are made. This may be in the offing, since France and the UK are becoming closer allies now with Sarkozy’s advent. No doubt this is seriously upsetting a lot of Islamic applecarts. Sarkozy has already drastically tightened French immigration policy, I’m extremely happy to report. “It is getting harder to enter the country as a legal immigrant - and easier for illegal aliens to be deported. The bill adopted by the National Assembly would require French language tests for visa candidates and parents seeking to join family members to sign immigration contracts. It would also authorize voluntary genetic (DNA) tests to prove family ties.” The bill hasn’t been passed yet but has good support. It should be noted that most of France’s illegal aliens are Arab muslims.
Now if the British will start following Sarkozy’s lead and enact similar or even stronger immigration laws, they may yet be able to stay British instead of becoming Englandistan. Wouldn’t it be a turnaround from the past century of France’s history if France became the leader of Europe once again after so very long a time of being weak in the face of adversity. Europe must have a strong leader to issue the wake-up call and survive the march of Islam. Sarkozy may be the one to do it. Watch and hope.

Sarkozy “gets it” about Islam, I believe. If only all of Europe would get a clue!

I think France may have a chance now. We can always hope. Sarkozy came out with a strong statement today, that if Iran is not dealt with now, it will lead to war. He’s for surgical strikes now.

Although General Charles Cornwallis lost and your lot won you could at least get his name correct.
Thanks.

All fixed. ‘Twas merely a minor slip of the “is”. Our lot thanks your lot for pointing out the insufficient number of letters in the name of your namesake.
Your lot could have at least been more civil about it. The attitude of your lot no doubt has a great deal to do with why your lot lost so badly and our lot won so handily, eh? Hmmm? Eh wot?

Thank you for the correction, no slight was intended.
The way things are going in this country (Britain) with our current crop of “British” citizens demanding that history be “rewritten” to include non existant or invented contributions from various ethnic or religious groups, preserving historical accuracy where possible (even if it is in the case of seizing defeat out of the jaws of victory) is all the more important.
Keep up the good work.

I will. Thank you for having a sense of humor, an increasingly rare thing these days.
