The New Alignments

As I’ve said in previous posts, Turkey and Iran are getting pretty cosy.
Turkey, Iran and Pakistan are forming a trade alliance and Turkey is going to be the new energy and trade corridor for Iran and Pakistan. The Russians are upset about this because this threatens their access to Turkeys natural gas fields and the U.S. is upset as well because this greatly interferes with the U.S. efforts to isolate Iran. The Turkish Foreign Trade Minister said “I’m expecting an explosion in Turkey’s trade with Iran and Pakistan”. Interesting choice of words.

Turkey has been backing off from its attempts to join the European Union and has been seeking other means of improving its economy and advancing its national development. I personally have thought that their desire to enter the EU was as much to advance Islam in Europe as to improve things at home, a feeling shared by enough in the EU to have kept them out so far. Now with their unabashed taking of sides with extremist Iran, their EU membership is a dead issue.

Turkey will sign a deal with Iran on Aug. 19 to cooperate in natural gas power plants for electricity production.

Iran might be getting suspicious of Syrias intentions. The two countries have opposing Islamic sects, Iran being Shiite and Syria predominantly Sunni, which has made them an odd couple to begin with, and Syrian Pres. Assad is afraid of a preemptive attack by Israel on Syria and has been making assurances otherwise, to Israel. This upsets Ahmadinejad, Irans president, as they have a mutual strategic alliance which is geared around attacking and destroying Israel. Iran is counting on Syria to join in the fray when the next attack on Israel comes and we may soon see threats being made against Syria to get back into line, if there’s truth in a looming Syrian defection.

Meanwhile, Israel Senior Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said: “…We have to be ready for the worst. A war on two fronts, in Lebanon and Syria, cannot be excluded.” Iran Revolutionary Guard Commander Safavi states the Shahab missile is remotely controlled and some are based outside Iran, in Turkey” (and aimed at Israel). Which is further confirmation of the military cooperation between Iran and Turkey and also underscores Turkeys negative stance toward Israel.

I’ve never felt that Turkey would ever be a reliable ally of the West. When the first Gulf War started, the U.S. requested of Turkey that our warplanes be allowed to overfly their country on the way to the battle and Turkey refused. This meant that we had to fly several thousand miles out of our way, and was not the actions of an ally. In fact we had to repeatedly warn Turkey off from taking advantage of the conflict to invade and slaughter the Kurds, a people we were trying to protect from slaughter by Saddams forces as it was.

Now Turkey has given up pretending to be any sort of friend to us, by siding with the worst enemy outside Saudi Arabia that we have in the Middle East.

Consequences:

If Turkey follows through and invades Kurdestan full force, Iran will join in and will most likely use chemical and biological weapons. Millions of Kurds will die in Iraq and then will die in Iran and Turkey. Genocide.

When the new alliance of war-mongering Middle East nations perceives that the U.S. is too weak or is unwilling to commit to a greater war, the attack on Israel will begin and the use of nuclear weapons is being broadly hinted at.

All this is uncertain, since the plans of humans “gang aft agley”. Israel may well pre-emptively strike both Syria and Iran. Since Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is the one who has hinted at having nuclear weapons, the Israelis may be considering nuking him first. Nasrallah might be assassinated, as might any of the other Middle East leaders including Ahmadinejad, Syrian Pres. Assad, Israels Olmert… and the entire picture would change.

One thing is certain, all sides are constantly working to change the picture in their favor, including our side, and keeping up with that crowd of devious dissidents is a full-time job.

I agree with your analysis. Sadr’s militia conducted three incursions into Turkish territory from Northern Iraq. They admit this, they are proud of this, this is to try and pull forces out of the Baghdad area and into the North. That has been partially successful.

Erdogan has recently proposed Gul for head honcho.
    Gul is a staunch islamist.
The military is charged by the constitution with keeping Turkey secular.
Last time Erdogan proposed Gul, the military intervened with harsh words, and a general election was called. Erdogans party won again, and proposed Gul again.
Over the past couple of years islamists have been appointed to key gov’t positions.
It looks like a swing to a theocratic state, which is, of course denied by all.
    Will the military intervene again?
Or Have they been penetrated by islamic appointments?
The Turkish economy had been on an improving trajectory.
If it becomes an islamic, theocratic state, like Iran, will the economic insanities of nutinadinnerjacket take root in Turkey? Will she become just another ME basket case?
Turkey has a work, and a business ethic, but will it survive the waving of asses in the air 5 times a day?
The secular turks are strongest in the western regions, which are booming from european tourism and holiday property purchases, and look askance at the antics of the theocrats from the central areas.
Strangely, it is the theocrats from the central areas who have the business ethic.
    We live in Machiavellian times.

Russia wll be pissed with Turkey/Iran for signing the agreement. Russia had been courting Iran with the idea of piping via russian territories to europe, to create a “gas opec”

    08/17/2007

Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon agreed to transform the Arab Gas pipeline, currently under construction, into Arab Gas Transport Network, linking it with the European network after Iraq formally joins it. The pipeline now carries Egyptian natural gas to Jordan.

At a meeting in Cairo between the oil and energy ministers of the above-mentioned countries, it was agreed that Syria would construct a 60 km (37.27 miles) pipe inside its territory up to the Turkish border in preparation for linking the two networks next year, and with Iran, if possible.

The Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Wealth spoke of the possibility of cooperation between Syria and Iraq for the development of the Iraqi “Acas” gas field on the Iraqi-Syrian border before linking it to the Syrian gas network

This still leaves russian approaches to libya, BUT,

    08/17/2007

Libya has embarked on a marketing campaign to attract international companies to bid for 14 natural gas concessions, both in land and in sea, in an effort to become a major producer of natural gas.

Currently, Libya produces 2.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas, but it seeks to increase production to 3 billion cubic feet in 2010 and 3.8 billion cubic feet in 2015. Libya has perhaps one of the last untapped sources of natural gas because the country was under sanctions until recently. Geologists believe that it is likely to be easier to extract gas than oil in Libya in the future.
    al-Quds al-Arabi, August 16, 2007

Certainly, if Libya wants international companies, it would seem not to be too interested in russia, who had been speaking to libya about the same “gas opec”. And certainly libyan gas would not need russian pipes.

As I posted a few days ago, russia is withholding nuclear fuel rods to pressure Iran into staying out of the deal.

It seems a distinct possibility of a shiite opec for gas, a gpec?, in opposition to the mostly saudi ruled opec.

As for Iran, the military complex in Arak city, which houses the heavy water, 40 megawatt, nuclear reactor, currently under construction is serious, and not affected by the russian withholding of fuel rods.
A heavy water reactor’s main purpose is to convert natural uranium directly into plutonium, the preferred fissionable material for nuclear warheads. In fact, if Iran is to have miniaturized nuclear warheads for placement on ballistic missiles, it must get the Arak project up and running. Yes, the Natanz uranium enrichment plant can make bomb-grade uranium. But for compactness, flexibility, ease of delivery, and cost of production, all nuclear weapon states have chosen the heavy water reactor/plutonium method as their primary route. The U.S. had its heavy water reactor/plutonium production facilities at Hanford and later Savannah River. The Israelis have Dimona. The North Koreans have (had) Yongbyon. Arak is this site for the Iranians.

This of course does not deny the use of enriched uranium for dirty bombs, delivered by terorrists.
There have been several “radiological alerts” in the US in recent days.
Apparently the Chinese gov’t is wary of Arak. In the last couple of days, 2 Chinese spies were arrested trying to enter the Arak facilities. They had entered Iran a few days earlier on tourist visas, and travelled 450 miles to Arak.
If the Chinese, who have reasonable relations with Iran, are worried about Arak, then the West should have serious worries.
They may also find a new ally at the next UN meeting to discuss the Iranian nuclear problem!

The above pipeline plans may go some way to explain the current hostilities in the area.

Russia and China may yet join with the Mid-East bloc regarding oil and gas, but I think Putin has cut both his and Chinas throats on that possibility with his domineering, bullying and nationalizing of private Russian oil holdings. Since Russia and China are now thick as the thieves they are, the Arabs are naturally going to see both of them as the same threat, and rightly so.

As for Iran, they may well keep smiling and bobbing their heads until they get the fuel rods and are able to continue production on their own, and then do to the Russians what they did to the U.S. .

Any talk from Arab states of joining up with Russia/China should taken with a large helping of salt.

    I agree, given current developments.
But alliances seem to move in the ME as fast as a prossy’s knickers.

Thought this might be interesting, in view of the brotherhood links throughout the west, and the unwillingness of left wing idiot politicians to do anything about them.

This is probably OT to the theme of this blog, but not to the overall Rasta theme.
Reading this I could not help wondering at the brain-washing that has created a society such as this, and perpetuates the myths so strongly.
The financial assistance involved to sustain so many martyrs and the entire social functions, must be enormous, and can only be realistically called “state”.
State sponsored insanity will surely cause the implosion of this disgusting death cult. However in the short term it guarantees a regular supply of walking bombs.

Yep, I’d mentioned that… “Turkey will sign a deal with Iran on Aug. 19 to cooperate in natural gas power plants for electricity production.”

The Islamic countries leaders have been facing a dilemma and making their choice. The dilemma is that most of them have had secular governments and want to keep it that way, rather than knuckle under to Sharia law, in the face of the rising tide of Islamic fervor.

The choice they’re making is to accept Sharia law and continue to stay in power, by appointing Sharia judges and other concessions. Otherwise they lose their power and position to the ayatollahs and imams.

The Islamic world is uniting whether we or they like it or not.

Rastaman. As you know, I mentioned this post at Right Truth, and a reader left this message:

“Turkey, Iran and Pakistan are forming a trade alliance and Turkey is going to be the new energy and trade corridor for Iran and Pakistan.”

Heroin corridor is more like it — the poppies are grown in Afghanistan, but Pakistan and Iran are major transshipment points on the way to Turkey.

Turkey is the marshaling point for sending the heroin to Europe.

Bush won’t do anything for fear of antagonizing certain Arab friends of his, who profit from the whole operation.

Meanwhile, that funding helps support Al Qaeda, while the narcotics destroy infidel lives.

Bush is derelict in his duties.”

I’m not sure if you have posted on any heroin connection.

  18. Rastaman Says:

No, actually, I hadn’t given the heroin connection any thought but it’s funny you should mention it, with this fresh in the news that you probably haven’t seen yet: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/08/17/europe/EU-GEN-Bulgaria-Heroin-Bust.php

Bulgarian cops busted a fifty kilo load of heroin being brought in over their border with Turkey.

The Turks have clearly joined the Islamists, not that it wasn’t clear before.
