The Continuing Saga Of… FREE Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean!!!
By Katharine Q. Seelye
“The 30-month sentence handed down today for I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby could become a rallying cry for Fred D. Thompson, the all-but declared Republican presidential candidate.
Mr. Thompson, who has viewed Mr. Libbys prosecution as a severe miscarriage of justice, told Fox News recently that if he were president, he would pardon Mr. Libby, the former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame Wilson case.”
Ok. I don’t know the details of this and can’t comment on whether this was an actual miscarriage of justice or not, other than that I thought Carl Rove should have been there as a co-defendant.
I’m not particularly concerned about Libby anyway. Who I’m concerned about are the two Border Patrol agents who were sent to prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the butt. They say the smuggler brandished a firearm and the smuggler was given immunity from prosecution by Bush’s appointed Federal Prosecutor and then testified against the Patrol guards, claiming he had no weapon. His word was taken over the Patrol guards.
What does Fred Thompson have to say about giving these guardians of our borders a pardon? Hmmm?
That’s what I want to know. To Hell with worrying about pardoning political appointees. What about the Protectors of our gates? Come on, Fred. If you’re really the guy we’re looking for, you’ll speak up on this. Stand up and be counted.
Later in the day… I got out my keyboard and surfed the ‘Net for anything Thompson might have said about the Border Guards. He said nothing. Nada. Zip.
Americans commenting in various blogs and news commentaries, however, are saying what I said, that those Guards should be pardoned before Libby. They also point out that Libby was convicted by a jury of his peers for lying to a Grand Jury and his sentence was based on the level of danger he put other CIA operatives in beyond Plame. It seems that Thompson, Libby and Cheney are close to each other, so I guess pardoning a friend isn’t out of line. After all, Bush has also indicated a pardon for Libby might be coming, and he’s already pardoned a bunch of drug dealers over the Border Guards.
That puts Fred Thompson squarely in Bush’s camp. I wondered, after what he said about Iraq and what he has not said about other important issues. It turns out he’s spoken out in favor of “some sort of legalization”, in other words, amnesty, for illegal aliens, and said that the border fence should be more of a “virtual” one. Then on the flip side, he’s spoken out against Mexico’s policies.
Thompson is looking more and more exactly like what he actually is: A professional actor.

Bush said today that nothing would be done ‘now’ concerning Libby’s sentence. But folks in his office are “not ruling out” that a pardon could be in the future.
On Thompson, it seems like I remember him commenting on the border patrol agents, but don’t quote me on that. I’m with you, those men should have (1) never been tried, (2) never gone to prison, (3) should have been pardoned and set free immediately. The illegal alien drug runner is free, still running drugs, living with lots of extra money thanks to the U.S. government. What a travesty.

My feeling is he will bottle it. Try to keep it in the long grass. Is the story still playing over in America? I doubt it, and if it isnt he wont resurrect it.
Crazy world.

Bush’s commutation of Libby shows what a lying hypocrite he really is. He freed a guilty man while two innocent men sit in jail. He has repeatedly claimed that he could do nothing to help Ramos and Campean. He supposedly feels bad for Libby’s wife and children. What about the wives and children of Ramos and Campean.
Bush ran as a compassionate conservative. Another lie. The man doesn’t know the meaning of the word.
