Fred Thompson. More Than Just A Homely, Bulldog Face?

Fred Thompson

Fred Thompson is saying the right things.
“He won a standing ovation from the dinner crowd of more than 450 in Richmond with a call for stronger borders and an attack on the immigration compromise pending in Congress, and backed by President George W. Bush, that would give 12 million illegal immigrants a shot at citizenship.

“This is our home and we get to decide who can come into our home,” he said.

He said Washington’s partisan politics had bred cynicism about government and there was a “disconnect” between Washington politicians and Americans.”

What? A politician who steps on the Big Lie that most Americans favor amnesty for 12 million MORE illegals? Someone who dares to speak of the vast gap that’s arisen between Them and Us?

I’m so excited I think I feel warm wetness in my left shoe.

He does support the war in Iraq and I’d like to know exactly why, since there are a lot of compelling reasons to leave Iraq. Maybe he knows something I don’t? I’m open. I’d like to know why, that’s all. Just saying that “This is a battle between the forces of civilization and the forces of evil and we’ve got to choose sides” is true enough but it seems to me there’s not enough of that choosing going on here in America, and maybe too much of it in Iraq, and anyway that’s a platitude, not an explanation of his thinking. Any fool can stand up and say “I’m against evil” and not expect an argument.

Thompson sounds about half real and half bullshit politician to me at this point. He also sounds better than the rest, and now that I look at it, that’s really not saying much.

Boy, the things I get excited about.

I love the title. He’s certainly not another “pretty face” like Edwards (*cough*). The think about Fred Thompson is , what you see is what you get. Period. No frills, no half truths, no icing over what he really thinks. You may not agree with him, but you know where he stands. He’s not a career politician, he hates how congress wastes time on bloviating and sound bites for their folks back home. If he doesn’t like you or something, he says it. Black and white, no middle ground. He understands the illegal alien problem, he understands Islam is the enemy. Both of those count big time in my voting booth.

    All that is true BUT…

If he hates how congress wastes time and money and so forth, why is he running for President? He’ll never change the way they do things.

I agree he sounds better than the rest of the field, hence my post. It just happens though that the majority of Americans want us the Hell out of Iraq and he wants us in, which is not good, and he has yet to say why. Since this is a monster of a major issue, and since the plain fact is that we’re there to get control of Iraqs oil, the only legitimate purpose for being there now is to keep Iran from taking over. I’d rather see us take out Irans government and put an end to the whole Mid-East problem. Or most of it anyway.

But yes, so far he’s the best one yet. And did you have to mention Edwards? Talk about your pretty faces. Did you watch that pretty face leap in every direction like a squirrel during the Dem debates? Talk about animated, 20 moues a minute, I swear. Mommy did her work well.

Thompson says some of the right things and the current GOP field is a gaggle of PATHETIC MILK SOPS….. but can a man who supported and voted for McCain Feingold be trusted?

If Thompson is willing to abridge the 1st amendment why not the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th? This guy is no Reagan. I don’t want the best of a bad lot - rather see klinton elected and get right to the civil war.

  4. Debbie Says:

Thompson wants us to win in Iraq. I think if he had his way we might just turn that sand into glass. But it’s too late for that.

  5. Rastaman Says:

Well, Debbie, there is that. If he said outright that he would prosecute the war with all-out vigor instead of playing patty-cake with that hastily installed government, I’d have no further misgivings.

  6. Right Truth Says:

Fred Thompson, what’s NOT to like?…

Fred Thompson was the must see TV last night, not the latest Republican candidates debating. Even using the word debate is a joke. Too many candidates, lousy moderators and even worse questions. Fox News Channel set the bar so high…
