NEW DELHI, May 18 — “A bomb exploded outside one of India’s largest and most sacred mosques Friday, killing at least seven people and seriously injuring 55, officials said.

The explosion at the expansive Mecca Masjid, in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, happened at 1:30 p.m. as crowded Friday prayers were ending, witnesses said. The blast was set off in the entrance of the marble-floored mosque, where worshipers wash for prayers. About 10,000 people were attending services at the time.”
“THOUSANDS of Indian troops were rushing to north Indian states last night to tackle the most serious Sikh uprising in decades. The deployment came as a bomb tore through one of India’s oldest and biggest mosques, killing five people and wounding 24 others as thousands of worshippers attended prayers.

The bomb was thought to have been placed inside a water tank in the southern city of Hyderabad’s historic Mecca mosque. Two other devices were defused following the explosion.”

It’s unclear right now whether this is a reprisal for attacks from muslims, or a new attempt to stir up an old Sikh effort to partition off yet another chunk of India as a Sikh homeland the way way Pakistan was partitioned off for the muslims. Considering that even though India is home to the world’s second largest Muslim population, the estimated 130 million Muslims here are a minority in a country of 1.1 billion people, 80 percent of them Hindu. Sikhs number less than 2% of the total but are also traditionally the fiercest fighters of India.

If the Sikhs are behind the mosque bombing, the fact they’re going after the muslims and not the majority Hindus makes me doubt the partition theory. They and Dera Sacha Sauda, a supposedly spiritual, peace-loving Maharishi-style sect, are engaged in riots with each other over the sects political support of the Congress Party. The Congress Party lost the election, and the DSS support for the party enraged the winners, the Shriomani Akali Dal, which is made up mainly of nationalistic Sikhs.

More likely, these two events are unrelated and the mosque bombing is a straight-up reprisal for muslim attacks.

Terror works both ways. If the muslims want to be able to get down on their knees and worship Satan undisturbed, they need places to do it, which they won’t have if the Sikhs blow them all up. So I’m thinking that what India needs is another religious holiday, National Mosque-Bombing Day, during which suicide bombers dressed as fat, greasy muslim women in burkas go inside mosques and detonate, while Sikh children throw Molotov coctails at the muslims. Turnabout IS fair play, isn’t it?

This could catch on. Dissatisfied elements of European and American society, and who knows, perhaps the whole world might start up their own versions of this special holiday. Well, probably not, but it’s a grand idea. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, Terrorism is as terrorism does.
