Awww, Cindy, fer gawds sakes….

Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, was among several US citizens who arrived in Cuba on Jan. 6 in preparation for a series of actions Jan. 9-13 to protest the US military’s use of its Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba to detain Muslim men captured as alleged “enemy combatants” in the “war on terror.”

Well gee, Cindy, where would you like us to keep them instead? What? You say you would prefer that we just not capture them? Could you please explain that, Cindy? I’m a little slow today and I’m not sure I understand the concept.

Asif Iqbal, a British muslim and self-admitted member of Al Queda, held for 2 1/2 years and released 2 years ago, is headed back to Gitmo with a group of 11 “peace activists” and relatives of detainees to denounce alleged abuses at the U.S. prison camp for terror suspects and demand it be closed.

They’re meeting Cindy Sheehan there and will all join hands at sunset, with candles stuck in hot wax on top of their heads, and sing Kumbaya. This will be incredibly impressive to George Bush, who will, of course, immediately order the closure of the facility, while a lone tear courses down his left cheek.

Iqbal, affectionately known as Icky, was picked up along with a couple of friends who had flown from England to Pakistan and then travelled to Afghanistan only for the sake of performing humanitarian aid, oh yes, arriving amazingly just as the U.S. began its assault on the Taliban regime for sheltering bin Laden and his followers. Golly gosh, what an unfortunate coincidence.

These guys went to Pakistan supposedly for Icky to marry some strange woman his mommy had chosen for him. But suddenly, going to Afghanistan “to render humanitarian aid” was much more important than getting married. Right. Isn’t it amazing how, every single time, these guys are always innocent and merely caught up in bizarre coincidence? Every one of the Guantanamo detainees has the same story.

Cindy, these are the people you hold hands with. You should be very thankful you’re an American citizen. If you were a muslim and acting against Islamic interests like this, you would have been tortured to death long ago. But just because you have the birthright doesn’t mean that you are right. You’re not. What you are is on a roll, you’re only in the limelight because your child died and you sensationalized it and now you get lots of attention. You no longer care what you say or do as long as the spotlight stays trained on you. What could the extremely dubious claims of some Gitmo detainees from Afghanistan possibly have to do with your sons death in Iraq? Answer: Nothing. You just love attention.

Naturally, Cindy had nothing to say about Castro’s political prisoners who have been held for decades.
Gitmo is a 5-star hotel compared to Castro’s gulags.

Thanks for the writing tip, Rastaman, and the well wishes. I’d love to get rich. Seriously. Hell, I’d be happy to be a one-hit-wonder.

I wish my story were more like a cross-country Kerouac journey. Next book, absolutely!
