ANKARA, Turkey (Reuters) — “Employees of the state body that organizes Muslim worship in Turkey asked the authorities on Tuesday to open legal proceedings against Pope Benedict XVI and to arrest him when he visits the country in November. It is not uncommon for individuals or organizations in Turkey to seek legal action against world leaders whose actions they disapprove of. They have never succeeded.”

Can you imagine what the worlds reaction would be if they did succeed this time and the Turks arrested the Pope? I can easily imagine Italy declaring war on Turkey, just for starters.

As it is, the Popes visit to Turkey is still on schedule and it’s a given that the muslim nation will see many demonstrations, very likely riots, and attacks on Christians, any Christians, Catholic or not. I won’t be surprised if there is an attempt on the Popes life.

The Pope has elected himself to be a lightning rod for Islamic rage, and in true Christian fashion is taking this on to show the world just what it is we are facing. This is a brave man. Already his life has been threatened by a number of muslim groups and he will literally be entering the lions den when he goes to Turkey.

There are over a billion Catholics. En toto, Christians outnumber muslims. Benedict is urging the rest of us by his own actions to face the fact that if we have no faith, we can’t hope to withstand the onslaught of a resurgent Islam, and already he’s making the worlds Christians take a long look at just how much faith they have.

He’d make a fearsome chess player. I can’t wait to hear what he says next.

And here’s what he said next: Saying he has “deep respect” for Islam, Pope Benedict again sought on Wednesday (today) in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, to clarify a speech that sparked anger in much of the Muslim world. He explained that he was trying to show that religion and reason go together but religion and violence do not.

In other words, Islam, being violent, is not a religion.
Hoo boy! Wait until that little zinger sinks in with the muslims. It just keeps getting better.
