Shiite, Sunni clerics rue sectarian bloodshed

The only thing keeping more Sunnis and Shiites from going for each others throats is their mutual desire to destroy Israel. The Sunnis are saying brave things like “Although Hezbollah is a Shiite party, we are all Muslims, and all Arabs will defiantly support them and fight the Jews” but the reality is that if the Jews weren’t in the picture for the Arabs to spew hatred and bile at, they would be busily torturing and mutilating each other on a grand scale right now.

This is already going on in Iraq and has been almost since the occupation by the U.S.. Iraq was run by the Sunni minority,which brutally oppressed the Shiites, stole and raped their wives and daughters, murdered them by the thousands and kept them in poverty and subservience. The ordinary citizens lived together in the towns and cities apparently peacefully, but under the surface the Shiites were seething with a desire for revenge. When the Sunni regime of Saddam was brought down, the acts of revenge began.

This is when Iran began pouring Shiite fighters and weaponry into Iraq. They saw the opportunity to retake Iraq as a satellite of Iran, something the two countries had fought a long war over before.

This is the whole point. If we get out of the way of these people and stop drawing attention to ourselves, they will destroy each other. They will solve the problem of peace in the Middle East for us. Then all we’ll have to do is deal with the ones already within our borders. Isn’t it clear that there will be no peace for any of us until the Sunnis and Shias resolve their own conflict and their encroachments on the West are reversed?

Saudi Arabia is Sunni along with Egypt and all the Arab countries outside of Iraq are predominately Sunni Muslim (not quite, Iran is Shia) and all of them are feeling the threat of the growing power of the Shiites. Having a majority of Sunnis is no guarantee that the Shiites won’t try to take over, as we have seen repeatedly in many small nations where a minority of Islamics manage to dominate the majority native population or are in the process of trying, currently.

In Sunni Pakistan, which has the A-bomb, the Shiite and Sunni fanatics have been attacking each other since the 1980’s. These two sects have been at war with each other virtually since Muhammad died and a separation occurred over who was to be the next leader.

The counterbalance to Iran is Pakistan. Shiite versus Sunni. Nuke versus nuke.
What needs to be done in the Middle East is to take one of two courses: allow the Shiites to become so great a threat to the Sunnis in comparison to the desire of both parties to eradicate Israel, that they go to war with each other;
or,
we can attack and cripple Iran to the extent that the Sunni nations feel emboldened enough to finish the job.

Either way, the two sects will decimate each other. Hezbollah and Al Queda and the other various and sundry terrorist factions will either wipe each other out or come close enough to it that we can mop them up with little effort.

I once watched a colony of black ants get attacked by a nearby colony of red ants. The red ants made an all out surprise assault and poured into the black ant nest. The battle raged for over an hour but the red ants finally won and the black ants pupae were carried off to be raised as slaves. Remind you of anything? Anyway it occurred to me that that was an opportune time for a third ant colony to jump in there and defeat both of them.

This would be a true case of not only the enemy of our enemy being our friend, but both enemies being our friends.
